Taking a guided tour of Billibellary’s walk enables you to reflect on the University of Melbourne as an Aboriginal space and part of Wurundjeri country. The Walk is best suited to groups of between 5-20 people: larger groups or classes can download and use the app in order to take the Walk together.
Indigenous students will guide you through the walk and provide context to the University’s built environment as a place of belonging for Aboriginal people. Guides may also share their own experiences of being Indigenous students at the University: guests on the Walk are encouraged to engage with the student guides through thoughtful and respectful questions and dialogue.
The Walk is open to all faculties, departments and areas of The University, as well as the general public. Bookings are available by request for groups.
The Walk is available between the hours of 10-5pm and will take approximately one hour and will include walking at a moderate pace and walking up some short sets of steps. Please advise when booking if you have any special requirements.
Please note that Billibellary’s walk is an outdoor walk with stretches of exposure. Guests are advised to bring water and wear sunscreen during summer, and bring umbrellas and coats in winter. If temperatures are forecast for over 30 degrees or hail/storms/snow is forecast the walk may be re-scheduled with 48 hours’ notice.
The walk is charged in order to pay student guides for their time.
