Student representation

All students automatically have access to all Student Union services and have the opportunity to extend their network of likeminded students at the University.

UMSU

The University of Melbourne Student Union (UMSU) is a student-run organisation. All students have access to the UMSU services. It supports students through the arts, representation, advocacy, live music and cultural services.

Indigenous Department

UMSU also represents Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through the Indigenous Department, which advocates for student matters and beyond. The Indigenous Department leads collectives, events and grants available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. It also coordinates the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student-led magazine Gundui Bunjil.

Graduate Student Association

The Graduate Student Association (GSA) is an independent student association that represents all graduate students at the University. It provides representation, events, training and support.

Indigenous Graduate Student Association

GSA also represents Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through the Indigenous Graduate Student Association (IGSA). IGSA helps graduate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students collaborate and communicate on research. It also supports undergraduate students who are interested in doing graduate study.

As of 2023, IGSA is inactive. However, if you are an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduate student or researcher, seeking additional representation, speak to the Student Success team about reinstating the committee. Graduate and research students are still wecome to access support services from UMSU.
